Beijing-Xian-Guilin-Yangshuo-Shanghai

Day 1 Arrival / Beijing
Transfer via: International flight on your own arrangement
Upon your arrival at Beijing airport, our local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free at your own leisure.

Day 2 Beijing (B, L)

Today you can fist visit the historic Tiananmen Square, and the magnificent Forbidden City in the morning and in the afternoon we will arrange you to learn Chinese Painting (about 2 hours in the afternoon).
– The Tian’anmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace) Square: the largest city square in the world and the spiritual heart of China, where the national flag is raised exactly at sunrise everyday.
– The Forbidden City: located in the center of Beijing, used to be the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties with a history of around 600 years, it is the grandest integral palace complex still remaining in China.
– Traditional Chinese painting has absorbed the best of many forms of art, like poetry, calligraphy, painting and seal-engraving. Chinese often consider a good painting is also a good poem and vice versa, hence the expression: painting is in the poetry and poetry is in the painting. The Chinese landscape painting is a product of imagination. It is picture of a peaceful place where one can enjoy tranquility and be close to nature.

Day 3 Beijing (B, L)
Today you will visit some of Beijing’s Hutongs by rickshaw. Lunch will be served in one of the local’s homes during the tour. In the afternoon you will go to visit the Summer Palace.
– Hutongs: the old narrow paths with lots of courtyard homes where common people are living, they are like villages within megalopolis, through the hutongs’ teeming maze of alleyways, you will see the old houses and learn about the daily life of ordinary Beijing citizens.

– The Summer Palace: Located on the northwestern outskirts of the city, it was an imperial summer resort of the Qing Dynasty. With its perfect layout, magnificent buildings and enchanting landscape, it is the most splendid classical garden in China.

Day 4 Beijing (B, L)
Today you will have a visit to the majestic Great Wall (Badaling section), and then we will bring you to the National Stadium and the National Aquatics Center of the Olympic Green for you to take pictures from outside.
– The Great Wall: the most famous symbol of China and one of the world’s most remarkable architectural wonders, it was built over 2,000 years ago and stretching about 6,700km.

Day 5 Beijing / Xian (B, L)
Transfer via: Flight on our arrangement
Free in the day until our local guide escorts you to the airport for your onward flight to your next destination–Xian. Upon your arrival, our local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have about one hours’ class to learn how to make dumplings at a local restaurant.
– Xi’an cuisine has a good, hearty style that should never let you leave the table hungry. Noodles and dumplings are the staples of the local food and these are almost always filling and warming.

Day 6 Xian (B, L)
Today, you will first visit the incredible life-size Terracotta Warriors and Horses,after lunch, you will have a countryside tour to Hongjia Cun. Pay a visit to a local typical family and cave houses.

– Terracotta Warriors and Horses: discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, one of the most significant archeological finds of the 20th century. These 6,000 life-size painted terracotta warriors and horses –individually sculpted from real-life models and arranged in battle formation have been protecting the mausoleum of the first emperor in Chinese history—Emperor QinShihuang since 2,200 years ago.

Day 7 Xian / Guilin (B)
Transfer via: Flight on our arrangement
Today, you will be free on your own until our guide meets and helps you transfer to the airport for your flight to Guilin. Upon arrival at Guilin, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. This evening, you will see the Cormorant Fishing.

– Cormorant Fishing: a unique and traditional fishing way on the beautiful Li River used by the local fishmen for about a hundred years, it is said a good cormorant can be as good as three good fishermen.
You will take a boat and sail on the river, while watching the local fisherman standing on the traditional bamboo raft with lanterns in front, his well trained cormorants diving in the water and returning to the fishermen whenever they catch any fish.

Day 8 Guilin/Yangshuo (B, L)
After breakfast, you will be driven to Zhujiang Pier (40-minute drive) to start your boat cruise down the picturesque Li River, which is the highlight of any visit to Guilin, until you get to Yangshuo County. Along the river, you will be inspired by breathtaking views of peaks and pinnacles, crystal-clear water and picturesque pastoral views of rice paddies and water buffaloes. Visitors feel they have stepped into a traditional Chinese painting. After checking into your hotel, you will be free to explore Yangshuo and its famous West Street. You also can choose an optional bike tour to explore the countryside.

Day 9 Yangshuo/Guilin (B, L)
Get up early this morning, you will learn Taichi in the local park with a local master. On this day you will have a very special cooking class. Your teacher will accompany you to a local market to purchase the ingredients you need to cook Guilin’s local cuisine. You will learn to cook the daily cuisine of the local people before sitting down to enjoy the food that you just learned to prepare. Afterwards, you will be driven back to Guilin.

Day 10 Guilin / Shanghai (B)
Transfer via: Flight on our arrangement
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon your arrival at Shanghai, China’s most cosmopolitan city, our local guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free at your own leisure.

Day 11 Shanghai (B, L)
On this day you will visit Shanghai History Museum, Yu Garden, the Yuyuan Market, Jade Buddha Temple and Stone Gate in Xintiandi Plaza. Evening walk along the Bund and Nanjing Road by yourself.
– Shanghai History Museum: with the 1,000 artefacts and exhibits in three major exhibition units, the historical evolvement of the politics, economy, culture, society and people’s life in the old Shanghai is reflected vividly.
– Yu Garden: located in the Old Town of Shanghai and laid out in 1559 AD by a powerful Ming official, Yu Garden recreates a beautiful landscape of pagodas, pavilions, rockeries, fountains, ancient trees and precious flowers.
– Yuyuan Market: Outside the Yu Garden, a bustling market with different snacks and trinkets.
– Stone Gate: the most typical Shanghai style house, it originates from the European style architecture with the combination of local cultural elements. This building style got very popular since 1920s. Nowadays, there are still around 40% Shanghainess living in these houses.

Day 12 Shanghai (B, L)
After breakfast, you will pay a visit to the Zhujiajiao old town along the way to Suzhou (100km away from Shanghai).At Zhujiajiao, walking through Fangsheng Bridge, Beida Street, Xi’s Residence etc, it seems that you walk back to the old days.

– Zhujiajiao old town: a well-preserved and fan-shaped old town with hundreds of years of history around the shore of vast Dingshan Lake, one of the largest commercial centers on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911AD), where you can see thousands of buildings in Ming and Qing style standing along the river, 36 old stone bridges connecting nine streets in the old town to form a unique and beautiful waterscapes.

Day 13 Shanghai Departure (B)
Transfer via: International flight on your own arrangement
Free in the day until our local guide escorts you to the airport for your flight to home.

  1. One FOC (based on twin share) will be offered when the group is over 16 Persons (15 Persons fully charged). If single room is requested, single supplement will be charged.

Payment.
1. On acceptance – £200 per person, Acceptance Payment/Deposit (non refundable) by cheque payable to “S W & M Miller” by Bank Transfer.

Your Contract for all tour arrangements is directly with our Associate Company in China to whom payment for the tour is made.

2. Eight weeks prior to arrival in China or on Acceptance – 50% payable in GB £, US $, by International Bank Transfer, direct to China

3. On arrival in China – 50% payable, in GB£, US $, by Credit Card or Cash.

Cancellation Charges
35 days prior to arrival a cancellation fee of US$200 per person will be applicable.
30 days notice of cancellation a fee of 25% of the total amount will be applicable.
25 days notice of cancellation a fee of 50% of the total amount will be applicable
Less than 25 days notice incurs the full amount.
