Cambodia Discovery offers you the complete insight into this fascinating country. On this tour you will discover the history and relics from the great Angkor and Khmer empire period, see the temples and palaces of the Kings of Cambodia and the creation of the country, visit ethnic tribal regions, learn local history and customs and discover their simple way of life with a hands on home stay experience, whilst contributing to the economic and natural survival of these people and their region, before finally seeing  deeper into the French colonial period at the seaside resort of Kep and Cambodia’s Jewel by the coast today, the beautiful seaside resort of Sihanoukville, yet to be spoiled by mass tourism. After 14 days of the Cambodia Discovery, you will have learned plenty about the country and perhaps have the desire to return and discover more of the fascinating kingdom of the proud Khmer people.

Day 1 Siem Reap (/) Today is the beginning of your experience in the Khmer Empire start the day visiting the awe inspiring Temples of Angkor for a full day of discovery. First we visit the “Great City” of Angkor Thom, built in the late 12th Century, entering its impressive stone gates and seeing the exuberant carvings, provide a fascinating insight into the Khmer Kingdom. Within the Royal enclosure you will see the Bayon temple, the Phimeanakas Temple, the Baphoun Temple, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. After lunch we continue on to the most famous temple of the former Khmer kingdom, Angkor Wat. This architectural masterpiece was constructed back in the 12th century and covers an area of around 210 hectares, and today is considered as an architectural masterpiece around the world. Inside, the walls are decorated with beautiful hand carvings and bas-reliefs illustrating Hindu mythology and over 2000 Aspara dancers ornate the temple walls. Having explored Angkor, we head back to our hotel to relax before enjoying this evenings dinner which will be accompanied by a traditional Apsara dance and culture show

Day 2 Siem Reap (/) This morning we visit the Roluos Group of monuments which are some of the earliest permanent temples ever built by the Khmer which provided the blueprint for structures that would dominate the kingdom for a further four centuries. These monuments include Preah Ko, which was erected by Indravarman I in the late 9th century, Bakong, which is the largest and most interesting of the Roluos group temples, Takeo, Thomannom, Chau Say Thavoda and Ta Prohm temples, The latter being one the most beautiful temples in this area which has remained relatively untouched and intact and was discovered after being hidden amongst the jungle over the centuries.

Day 3 Siem Reap (/) After Breakfast visit Banteay Srei located 35km from Siem Reap, built at a time when the Khmer Empire was gaining significant power the temple displays some of the finest classic Khmer Art, also visit Pre Rub with its beautifully carved false doors on the upper levels. After lunch drive to Chong Kneas and take a boat trip to the fishing villages, cruise through the villages of the Tonle Sap to discover the natural splendour and old lifestyle of the country. The Tonle Sap Lake is one of the natural wonders of the world. Due to the cycle of annual flood water, the Great Lake serves as a main source of freshwater fish and as the foundation of the Great Angkor Empire dating from some 1000years.

Day 4 Siem Reap – Kratie (B/L/D) Depart Siem Reap at 7am for your transfer to Kratie arriving in the early afternoon where our local guide will greet you . On arrival we cross over the Mekong River to the Island of Koh Trong and take a leisurely cycle around the island observing local life and interacting with the villagers before arriving for our overnight Home stay with the local villagers. This evening will be a traditional Khmer experience only afforded by the locals on a home stay, learn cooking methods and local customs with your hosts.

Day 5 Kratie – Ban Lung 5 hr Drive (B/L) First we take part in  a rewarding tree planting ceremony with the local villagers, a symbol of your gratitude and a contribution to their continual survival and their way of life, then we drive north to Kampi to take a relaxing boat ride to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, and visit the 100 Pillar Wat before continuing on to Ban Lung. We will spend the afternoon at Yeak Lom Lake, an amazing volcanic lake in the middle of an extinct volcano surrounded by lush forest growth. Here you can take in, explore or simply relax at this wonder of nature.

Day 6 Ban Lung The Kroeung territory (B/L) Today we start two days exploring and learning about the cultures of local ethnic groups of Cambodia in the Bang Lung Region, discovering local customs, handed down over generations, seeing how the tribes people have lived off of the land for centuries. This morning we travel North by four wheel drive vehicle, heading in the direction of Laos towards the tribal village of Taveng, crossing over the volcanic rocks of Veyrum Pling: an amazing lava field situated within the forest with a small quaint waterfall nearby (the waterfall is only present in the wet season) As we head north to Taveng, passing through lush green forests, stopping at a local Kroeung tribal village located in the heart of the forest to meet the villagers and learn about their local life and culture. Then we enjoy lunch relaxing at a small waterfall in the forest before returning to Ban Lung in mid afternoon.

Day 7 Ban Lung The Jarai territory (B/L) Today we head eastwards, towards the Vietnamese border, stopping to visit the Tampoun tribal village and observe their local customs. Here you will be able to see traditional handicrafts being made and sold. Why not try your hand at bargaining for traditional handicrafts such as baskets, pipes and gourds which make ideal souvenirs and help to support the local economy of the Tampoun people. Then we continue our day crossing through rubber tree, cashew nut and coffee plantations which are the local products of this region, stopping at the village of Bokeo , visiting Andong Meas (A Gold well) and the Se San River, where we’ll take you on a leisurely boat ride to see the Jarai tribal villages before returning to Ban Lung in late afternoon.

Day 8 Ban Lung – Phnom Penh 9hr Drive (B/L) We depart from Ban Lung and  transfer you back to Phnom Penh spending the day driving through Kratie and Kampong Cham provinces , stopping on route, to sample the surroundings and enjoy lunch before arriving into Phnom Penh late afternoon. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing or stroll down riverside.

Day 9 Phnom Penh (B/L) Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading out and discovering Phnom Penh a fascinating city located on the banks of the Mekong and Bassac rivers, the city has seen both turbulent and nostalgic eras and today it is emerging as one of the must see destinations in Asia, rich in history, culture, arts and  sightseeing. Visit Tuol Sleng Museum, which was a former high school, converted into a prison and used as a torture center by the Khmer Rouge in 1975 before exploring everyday local life and experiencing the local markets. Have lunch at a restaurant which trains local street kids before spending the afternoon at the Silver Pagoda home to 5000 pieces of silver, and the beautifully crafted Cambodian Royal Palace. Later in the afternoon we take a tour to see the Phnom Temple (or Wat Phnom) -the site where the first ever pagoda was built by a woman named ‘Penh’ in 1372. The pagoda became the name sake of the city. Evening at leisure your leisure

Day 10 Phnom Penh – Kep 3hr Drive (B/L) We spend the morning first visiting the Killing fields at Choeung Ek, which is a stark reminder of the brutality of the former Khmer Rouge regime. It is rumored that more than 17000 souls perished here. From here continue to the former colonial-era seaside resort of Kep. On arriving we enjoy lunch before spending the afternoon on a boat trip to Koh Tonsay (known as Rabbit Island)

 Day 11 Kep (B/L) We depart from Kep early at 7am to travel to explore Bokor National Park. Upon arriving we take a 2 and ½ hour trek uphill through the jungle exploring the beautiful surroundings and nature. For the last hour to the summit, we travel by pick up stopping to see the King’s Old Residence the Black Palace. At the top of Bokor hill we will discover the abandoned buildings, the site of a former French Hill Station and a Casino now covered in vegetation Bokor Hill affords with magnificent views over the Gulf of Thailand whilst you enjoy a picnic lunch. Early in the afternoon we make our way back down the peak by truck before trekking back down hill and arriving back into Kep around 6pm

Day 12 Kep – Sihanoukville 2 hr Drive (B/L) This morning we take a short drive from Kep to Cambodia’s best kept secret , the beach resort of Sihanoukville Upon arriving you can relax and enjoy the rest of your day, swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling in the beautiful clear waters at this relaxing, unspoiled beach destination.

Day 13 Sihanoukville (B) Today we’ll explore the nearby beaches and islands around Sihanoukville. First we travel by boat from O’Chhuer Teal Beach stopping at Koh Trest Island where you can enjoy fantastic snorkeling, before continuing on to Koh Russie Island which has a beautiful white sandy beach ideal for sunbathing and relaxing. We will have our picnic lunch here and if you wish to try your hand at fishing this can also be arranged for you. We return back to Sihanoukville mid to late afternoon.

Day 14 Sihanoukville – Phnom Penh – Departure 3hr Drive (B) After breakfast we transfer you from Sihanoukville back to Phnom Penh to check in for your flight to your next destination, or choose to extend your stay here for a few more days relaxation.

3. On arrival in Cambodia, Laos or Thailand – 50% payable by Credit Card (3% charge) or Cash. Cancellation Charges 35 days prior to arrival a cancellation fee of US$200 per person will be applicable. 30 days notice of cancellation a fee of 25% of the total amount will be applicable. 25 days notice of cancellation a fee of 75% of the total amount will be applicable Less than 25 days notice incurs the full amount.
